Amanda LaPera is a mental health advocate, family member, and consumer, National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), Orange County Affiliate Board Member, Government Committee Member, and Communications and Outreach Chair. Through writing, speaking, and advocating, she aims to increase awareness, eliminate discrimination, and offer hope. She is the author of the forthcoming book, LOSING DAD, Paranoid Schizophrenia: One Family's Search for Hope, the true story of how brain disease, otherwise known as severe mental illness, affects the entire family. Considering her father did not fall ill until the age of 53, it is important for people to recognize that anyone is susceptible to mental illness at any time.
